We’d All Love To See The Plan
“It’s not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?”
- Henry David Thoreau
I did NOT mean to fall off the planet. I knew going into this week I would be pretty busy. With Monday being a holiday, I had to do a little juggling in my already tight schedule to fit everything in. My weekdays usually start around 7am so I can get in some nice coffee and blog time in before the craziness of the day ensues. I try to stay away from the computer at night, so I get in what I can in the morning.
So I woke up Wednesday morning and settled down in front of my computer to catch up on some of my favorite blogs and write a little one of my own. As my computer was gearing up, I opened my planner to see what was on my list for the day…9am PHYSICAL THERAPY. Well, crap. I got my Friday afternoon and Wednesday morning times mixed up. My slow morning dreams were quickly dashed, and I jumped in the shower, packed a lunch, walked my dog and downed my cup of coffee in the span of 30 minutes. You see, my incredible physical therapist came in an hour earlier than normal to work on me since their office hours are the same as my rehearsal time. I did NOT want to be late or call out of my appointment since I knew she was coming in early specifically for me. I made it just in time and with a cup of coffee in hand to thank her for helping me out.
I felt a little scattered all day after that. I guess it is bound to happen with all the things that I have going on, but I am glad I saw it in my planner before it was too late. I write everything down these days. I have no brain capacity to remember anything unless it is in my planner…and color coded. That is just how I roll.
I did remember that my bestie, D, was moving apartments yesterday. I also remember that they now live above a beer garden.
See…it is the important things.
Rehearsals are pretty intense. We have made some major changes in a few things we had already staged so you can’t just go through the motions. You have to be completely engaged throughout the day because what you may have done yesterday, or even 5 minutes ago, has been changed. But it is still so exciting to see things take shape.
Ok, well I am off to rehearsals and then instead of practice tonight with my team (I just ran my 8 miles this morning), we are meeting at the Alzheimer Association Office and picking up all our race stuff. I am super excited! I can’t believe we are 2 months away! Eek!
What do you do to keep track of your schedule?
I keep my appointments on a paper calendar and on the my phone calendar. Now that I am cobbling together my income with teaching Zumba, tutoring and some baby-sitting here and there, added to church choir and worship team rehearsals, and then all the other things that pop up, I have found that I have to have the dates in both places. During the last week of the month, I sit down and make sure my two calendars match and then put all the dates on a third white board calendar that is the “family” calendar, so the hubs can see what I’m up to and I can see when he will be out of town for work. Doing this helps me get ready mentally for the month ahead and reminds me of what is on the calendar to come. It may be overkill, but I just can’t keep it all in my head anymore!
